Scientists Say This Collagen Drink Reduces Skin Aging in Weeks
A recent investigation revealed that a drink containing both collagen and elastin peptides significantly enhanced skin hydration, boosted elasticity, and reduced the appearance of wrinkles in young and middle-aged women. This indicates that such supplements could offer a viable solution for combating skin aging.
With age, the body’s levels of collagen and elastin naturally diminish, leading to sagging skin, fine lines, and more pronounced wrinkles. These changes are typically brought about by oxidative stress, inflammation, and alterations in enzyme activity.
Collagen, the primary structural protein within the extracellular matrix of connective tissue, plays a crucial role in skin healing, bone regeneration, and anti-aging. Certain active collagen tripeptides (CPs), particularly Gly-Pro-Hyp (GPH) and Pro-Hyp (PH), have demonstrated considerable effectiveness in reducing skin aging symptoms.
Impact of Collagen and Elastin Supplements
CPs, along with elastin peptides (EPs), have shown the potential to repair wrinkles, enhance collagen production, and exhibit anti-aging properties. Despite the well-documented skin-soothing and anti-aging effects of oligopeptide collagen, CP, and EP in various fields, their combined impact on skin aging has been sparsely studied.
A study, published in Volume 1, Issue 2 of the Journal of Dermatologic Science and Cosmetic Technology, recruited 70 volunteers to assess the effects of a collagen drink combining CP and EP on the skin health of young and middle-aged women.
skin aging collagen drink: Study Results and Key Insights
“The volunteers were divided into two groups: one group consumed the collagen-rich drink, featuring a mix of CPs including tripeptides, while the other group received a placebo,” explains lead author Shan Lu.
The results showed that the group consuming the collagen drink experienced marked improvements in several areas: skin hydration, reduced transepidermal water loss, increased skin elasticity, higher dermal collagen levels, reduced pore size, shorter wrinkle lengths, smoother skin texture, and a decrease in skin roughness.
“Additionally, mass spectrometry revealed a notable rise in collagen efficacy markers, including elevated blood pH and GPH levels,” Lu adds.
In conclusion, the study supports the combined use of CP and EP as effective dietary supplements to combat skin aging, particularly in young and middle-aged individuals.
